This month, Premier Landscaping is making a significant milestone: 46 years of enhancing and transforming landscapes across the vibrant communities of Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
From the first blade of grass we trimmed to managing sprawling, lush properties today, our journey over these years has been driven by a shared passion for excellence, a deep love for the natural world, and a commitment to the success of the businesses we partner with.
As we celebrate nearly half a century of growth and greenery, we are excited to reflect on our cherished moments, explore impactful projects, and look ahead to a future rich with possibility and green innovation.
A look through our history
From our early days as a small team with big dreams, through decades of expansion and innovation, each step on our timeline reflects our commitment to excellence and the evolving needs of the communities we serve.
Here’s a closer look at how we’ve grown and adapted over the years to become a leader in the landscaping industry.
1978
The journey began when Dave Robertson purchased a small landscape maintenance company, rebranding it as Premier Landscaping. Starting with just 6 contracts, the foundation was laid for a future of growth.
1980s
A decade of significant expansion, establishing Premier Landscaping as a key provider for large complexes. Notable projects included Knightsbridge Business Park and Honda Canada, setting a standard for quality and reliability. We also began our long-standing relationship with Dolphin Square, a testament to our enduring service quality.
1990s
The company moved into the healthcare and institutional sectors, taking on major sites like The Richmond Hospital, Workers Compensation Board (WorkSafe BC), and the Air Canada Hanger in Richmond.
2000s
Expansion continued in the healthcare sector with major additions like Vancouver General Hospital and Lion’s Gate Hospital. Key milestones included moving our head office to Langley in 2008, taking on key projects with Victoria Park and Crescent Downs – both of which continue today.
2010s
Throughout the 2010s, Premier Landscaping expanded its reach into large strata and multiple major retail centers, including notable locations like Tsawwassen Mills, Metropolis at Metrotown, BCIT, and BC Ferries.
In 2015, we embraced a significant rebranding that introduced a new logo and updated core values. This new branding, which features a leaf symbolising the four seasons, underscores our commitment to year-round maintenance excellence and exceptional client care. This era further solidified our reputation as a trusted leader in landscape management.
2020s
In recent years, Premier Landscaping strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability. We introduced electric equipment and expanded our influence to major sites like Simon Fraser University and BC Children’s Women’s Hospital.
Our portfolio also grew to include partnerships with notable retailers such as Sobey’s and Loblaws. This focus on green practices earned us recognition from BC Hydro with the Green Energy Champion award, a proud highlight in their monthly newsletter that underscores our dedication to sustainable landscaping solutions.
Success stories
Following our journey through the history and growth of Premier Landscaping, we now turn our focus to some of the most significant projects that highlight our expertise and the positive impacts we’ve achieved.
These case studies not only showcase our technical abilities but also our dedication to providing solutions that meet the unique needs of each site.
Let’s explore three standout projects that demonstrate how our approaches have revitalised and transformed spaces, bringing lasting benefits to the communities and clients we serve.
BCIT Main Campus
Transforming a 130-acre campus was no small feat. Employing our eco-friendly practices, we revitalized BCIT’s main campus from a neglected space to a vibrant educational environment. Our comprehensive care and commitment to chemical-free solutions have sustained its growth and beauty, making it a cornerstone of our portfolio.
Simon Fraser University
Located atop Burnaby Mountain, Simon Fraser University presented unique landscaping challenges due to its expansive and diverse terrain. Our team expertly maintains this vast 227-acre site using tiered management strategies, ensuring no chemicals or pesticides are used, thus preserving the natural integrity and beauty of the campus.
BC Ferries Tsawwassen Terminal
Initially a site suffering from neglect, the BC Ferries Tsawwassen Terminal has seen a remarkable turnaround under our care. With a robust maintenance program and smart weeding strategies, we have not only enhanced the site’s aesthetics but have also ensured its continuous improvement through various budget phases, including the challenging times of COVID restrictions.
These projects underline our ability to handle complex landscaping challenges and our unwavering dedication to enhancing every property we manage.
The future of Premier Landscaping
As Premier Landscaping marks its 46th year, we find ourselves pausing to appreciate the vibrant growth and deep-rooted connections we’ve nurtured over the decades. This anniversary isn’t just a celebration of our past; it’s an invigorating launchpad for the future.
With a dedicated team and a history of impactful projects, we’re poised to embrace new collaborations and innovative practices that promise to enhance our community landscapes even further.
